Rivers United To Receive NPFL Trophy, Sunday … Host Gombe United
On Sunday, Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, will be at the centre stage for football fans, as the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will officially hand over the trophy to Rivers United, winners of the 2021/2022 NPFL season.
Rivers United will also lock horns with Gombe United, same day at Adokiye Amiesimaka.
The encounter will be one of the match 38 matches that will be played simultaneously across different venues in the country. The encounter will obviously be a mere formality.
Pride of Rivers, as they are called, were confirmed champions last month following Plateau United’s loss to Akwa United in Uyo, in week 35.
However, as it stands, if Rivers United win the match against Gombe , they will break the record of 74 points set when the club named Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt won the league and set a new mark of 77 points.
United have also recorded the most win in a season.
The Technical Manager of the team, Stanley Eguma, said his team will do anything possible to win their last game, saying his players were determined to maintain their integrity.
