Check Indecent Dressing Among Children, Expert Advises Parents, Govt
A management consultant in Rivers State, Alabota Patience Reuben Jaja, has cautioned parents and government at all levels against allowing their female children to wear clothes that reveai their bodies, making them susceptible to rape.
Speaking with The Tide recently in Port Harcourt, Jaja said she was concerned about the increasing rate of rape cases, stressing that urgent steps need to be taken by relevant authorities to address the trend the society.
According to her, “recent trend of rape cases and other violent crimes across the country has made it imperative for parents, schools, churches, and other relevant bodies to ensure that the child is properly protected to stem the negative development”.
The University of Jos trained management expert said under the Rivers State law, children have the right to life, survival, balanced development, a name and registration at birth, dignity and respect, privacy, family life and parental care, protection, and maintenance.
Jaja further stressed that for the girl child to be protected from rape, parents must ensure that they dress decently at all times.
This, she said, “will, among others, prevent them from being victims of rapists”.
She explained that the call becomes necessary to draw attention to the increasing cases of violence against children, and possibly “finding a lasting solution to the menace, which has turned into a monster in our society”.
