Insecurity: Buhari Orders Security Agencies To Rescue All Captives

President Muhammadu Buhari has once again issued fresh directives to security agencies to rescue all those in captivity across the country and advance the acquisition of intelligence.
The National Security Adviser, Babagana Munguno, disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by Buhari that the president was not happy with the prevailing security situation.
According to him, the last straw was the recent attack on the Abuja/Kaduna train leading to the killing of some passengers and kidnapping of scores.
Insufficient technology and human intelligence particularly from the wider society, according to him, has led to the persistent war and unless this is defeated, the war might become insurmountable.
Earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari had summoned security chiefs to a security meeting sequel to the recommendations by the Council of State over the security challenges bedevilling the country.
Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru, had penultimate Thursday, briefed State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting of the Council of State, where he announced that Buhari would be meeting security chiefs this week over the current security situation in the country.
Badaru said the meeting followed recommendations and comments by the Council of State.
He stated that the necessary measures would be taken to ensure that farmers across the country carry out their activities without any hindrance to boost food production in the country.
Buhari, while speaking at the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), last Wednesday, warned of tougher security measures in restive parts of the country and review of operations and strategy.
He reassured Nigerians that the efforts that resulted in relative peace in South-South, and rescuing of North-East from the hold of terrorists would be ramped up.
According to Buhari, the major security challenges have remained in the North-Central and North-West, saying: “We are going to be very tough.’’
However, the meeting held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, yesterday, was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, some cabinet ministers, service chiefs, and heads of security establishments at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Others at the meeting include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari; and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd).
Also in attendance were the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Baba Usman; the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
