RSU Faculty Of Engineering Honours Retired, Serving Engineers
As a way of appreciating efforts and hard works, The Faculty of Engineering, Rivers State University, has honoured 21 retired and serving Engineers with merit award.
Those honoured include: Engr. Prof. Youpele Beredugo, Engr. Bentley George, Engr. Goeorge Okoroma, Engr. Beniah Ojum, Engr. Dr. Ibiba Douglas, Engr. Dr. Achinike Ibekwe, Engr. Andrew Aligbe and Engr.Prof. Millionaire Abowei.
Others are: Engr. Prof. Isoteim Fubara-Manuel, Engr. Prof. Ademiluyi Taiwo, Engr. Prof. C. P. Okpaka, Engr. Prof. J. G. Akpa, Engr. Aleruchi Nwanodi, Engr. Dr. S. Orike, Engr. Dr. B. Nkoi, Engr. Prof. Asinyetogha Igoni and Engr. Dr. Ebenezer Ngerpe.
Speaking at the award ceremony which held recently at the University’s Amphitheatre, the Chairman of the Occasion, Engr. Emeritus Prof. Steve Odi-Owei congratulated the awardees for their selfless contributions to the Faculty of Engineering in particular and the University in general.
Emeritus Prof. Odi-Owei who was a former Vice-Chancellor of the University, commended the leadership of the faculty for the recognition of those who have contributed in various ways towards the development of the faculty, stating that it was a good thing to honour individuals when they are still alive.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, who was represented at the occasion by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Nnamdi Okoroma, lauded the initiative by the Faculty of Engineering, calling on other faculties to also honour those who have served or contributed to their faculties.
In his address, the Dean of the faculty, Prof. Christopher Ahiakwo, noted that the annual award ceremony which was introduced by his administration, was a way to appreciate individuals and corporate organizations who have contributed to the growth and development of the faculty and indeed the University.
While congratulating the awardees for emerging winners in the selection process, the Dean of the faculty thanked them for their support, adding that those from the industry have always accepted students from the faculty for Industrial placement.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Engr. Prof Youpele Beredugo, thanked the faculty for recognizing them. He stated that his career in lecturing has enabled him impart so many people, some of whom he said have gone on to attain notable positions in society.
To show his appreciation, Prof Beredugo presented a printer and some copies of hisbook to the faculty.
