Opobo Chieftaincy Tussle: Court Restrains Head Of Cookey-Gaam Family
A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt presided over by Justice E. N. Thompson has restrained Arusibidabo S. J. S. Cookey from parading himself or holding himself out, as the Alabo and Head of Chief Cookey-Gram War Canoe House, Opobo in Opobo Kingdom or in any other name pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
Cookey, an academic professor, is the first Defendant/Respondent in the suit bordering on the headship of Cookey-Gam War Canoe House of Opobo Kingdom with suit number PHC/678/CS/2021 before Justice E. N. Thompson brought by Warisenibo Robert Darling Cookey-Gam and Warisenibo Soprienye J. S Cookey-Gam, for themselves and as representing the Executive Committee of Cookey-Gam War Canoe House of Opobo Kingdom as 1st set of Claimants/Applicants in the matter.
Thompson after hearing the submission of A. A. Brown with L. P. Nnaa (esq.) for the claimants, Anthony Nwobueze for the parties seeking to be joined as second set of Defendants and Wilcox Abereton (SAN) with Uchechi Victor for the Defendants, also restrained Arusibidabo, S. J. S. Cookey, Senibo Dienye S. Bell-Gam, Senibo Mike Williams-Hart, Mrs Nkiru Mike Williams, Ms Loving Bell-Gam and Mr Kissmate Apawari Cookey, who are 1st to 6th defendants in the matter, their servants, privies or any other person from acting, parading, holding themselves out as members of the Executive Committee of Cookey-Gam War Canoe House, Opobo in Opobo Kingdom pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The trial judge later adjourned to January 31, 2022 for motion for joinder.
