Buhari Sends 2022-2024 MTEF To Reps
President Muhammadu Buhari has sent the 2022-2024 Medium Time Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) to the House of Representatives.
The President, in a letter read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, at plenary, yesterday, commended the lawmakers for the January-December budget cycle.
He explained that the 2022 budget would be prepared using the approved MTEF of the National Assembly.
Reacting to the letter, Hon Ndudi Elumelu said the government should have used the previous MTEF, which according to him was to run from 2021-2024.
The Chairman House Committee on Finance, Hon James Faleke, said parameters were subject to change, adding that the government is acting within the confines of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.
The MTEF was referred to the House Committee on Finance.
Meanwhile, the House also passed a bill to allow states to declare holidays.
The bill, sponsored by Hon Mukhtar Chawai, seeks to alter the 1999 Constitution by deleting holidays from the Exclusive Legislative List and moving it to the Concurrent List.
The bill was passed without any debate.
