MACH, Centre Of Excellence, Banigo Affirms
The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo says, when completed, the Mother and Child Hospital would serve as a centre of excellence in maternal and child healthcare delivery.
Banigo stated this in a goodwill message to commemorate the 2021 International Midwives Day, in Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday.
According to the deputy governor, “Midwifery is a very important component of the health system”, adding that midwives save millions of lives across the globe each year.
Banigo said as part of deliberate strategy to promote safe motherhood, the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration ensures that pregnant women who visit health centres four times for their antenatal, in the course of their pregnancy, were given free delivery.
She also said that free routine drugs were provided for those who attend antenatal clinics in government health facilities, stressing that antenatal clinics operate 24hours with trained midwives for improved service delivery.
It would be recalled that May 5 each year is set aside to celebrate International Midwives Day.
The theme for this year is, “Follow the Data: Invest In Midwives”.
