Group Vows To Protect Environment From Oil Pollution

The Ekpeye Oil and Gas Pipeline Hosts Families Association in Rivers State, has vowed to protect the Ekpeye environment from pollution.
The association which said this at a briefing in Ahoada also accused the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) of not doing enough to develop the area.
According to the group, SPDC since its existence in the area has nothing to show in terms of employment and human capital development.
Chairman of the association, Mr Chidi Ogini said the group was working hard to ensure that Ekpeye people benefit from their God-given resources.
He also denied that the association was formed to defraud the people as well as interfere in traditional matters in the area.
Ogini also praised Total ELP for its developmental projects in its host communities.
According to him, as peace-loving people, the group will always adopt dialogue to resolve its matters and stressed the need for a modular refinery to be sited in Ekpeyeland.
He also stressed the need for the Niger Delta Petroleum Resources to relocate its headquarters to Ekpeyeland.
According to him, the group will continue to agitate against the environmental degradation of Ekpeyeland, adding that the people have lost their aquatic resources and others to oil pollution.
Ogini called on the management of SPDC to create employment opportunities for youths of their host communities.
