Rivers NUJ Scores LG Boss High On Infrastructure Dev
The leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, has commended the development strides of the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council Engr Samuel Nwanosike.
The Chairman of the union, Mr Stanley Job Stanley made the commendation when he led members of the State Working Committee (SWC), State Executive Committee (SEC) and some journalists in the state on inspection tour of projects executed by the administration of Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, last Wednesday.
Addressing journalists at a six classroom block under construction at Aluu community, Job said the project tour by the union was part of its constitutional responsibility to hold public officers accountable
He expressed satisfaction at the quality and kind of projects executed by the Engr Nwanosike-led administration in the area, saying that they are projects that have direct bearing on the people.
“I’m satisfied with what we have seen on project sites that cut across almost all the communities and wards in the area.
“Though we have not visited other local government areas to see what they have done but I think we are all impressed on what we have seen completed and ongoing”, he stated.
The NUJ state boss averred that those who had done well need to be encouraged by giving them second chance but quickly added that such powers lie with the people of area.
He used the opportunity to advocate for full autonomy for the local government administration in the country with proper funding and should be allowed to function very well because it was the government that is close to the people.
Speaking to journalists, the Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, Engr Samuel Nwanosike, said the various projects executed by his administration were borne-out of sacrifice made endured by his administration that are necessary for the development of the area.
He called on the people to give more time to his administration to enable it complete all the various ongoing projects, adding projects were executed across all the thirteen wards of the local government. According to him, the council has been able to reclaim the society from the hands of the hoodlums with the help of security agencies and local vigilante.
