Wike Thanks Rivers People For Prayers Over Late Uncle’s Passage
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has thanked Rivers people for their prayers and condolences since the passage of his uncle, late Chief Charles Wike.
Wike said the fervent prayers of Rivers people and their condolence visits have given the family the strength and courage to bear the irreparable loss.
He spoke, last Sunday evening during a condolence visit by Rivers Elders at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
Wike said: “I thank Rivers people who have fervently prayed on our behalf. Their prayers and visits have given us the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
“Nobody can say that we can have a replacement of our late uncle. No matter the condolence messages, he cannot be replaced. But we thank God for what he used him to do for our community.”
The governor described his uncle as a great man who stood for his community, promoted education and contributed his quota to the overall development of the area.
He thanked Rivers Elders for the condolence visit, saying that the family appreciates their support at this moment of grief.
“We sincerely give God the glory for the good life that he lived. It would have been our pleasure for him to live longer, but God decides what happens”, he said.
He said that his uncle as a historian; played a positive role in the community, and assured Rivers Elders that they would be informed when his uncle would be buried.
In his remarks, Leader of Rivers Elders, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba said that the elders were at the Government House, Port Harcourt, to commiserate with the Rivers State governor over the passage of his uncle.
He said late Chief Charles Wike was a good man who left behind a rich profile of service to his community and Rivers State.
Alabraba said: “Your Excellency, your uncle was a colossus and he lived a good life. We are here to mourn him.”
He said that Rivers Elders would participate actively in the burial of late Chief Charles Wike, and urged the Rivers State governor to inform them anytime the burial is scheduled.
Also speaking, the former Rivers State governor, Sir Celestine Omehia, prayed God to bless and protect the family.
Omehia said while the late Chief Charles Wike rests in God’s bosom, God should strengthen the family to bear the great loss.
He prayed God to grant the governor the wisdom to continue to lead Rivers people in the right direction.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
