Arsenal Has Tough Decision To Make On Aubameyang’s Future -Winterburn
Arsenal has a tough decision to make on star forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at the club, according to Gunners legend, Nigel Winterburn.
The Gabon international is contracted to the club until June 2021 and Arsenal risk losing him on a free once he enters the final year of his deal at the end of the current season.
Winterburn fears that the Gunners will not get the amount they desire for their club captain if he wants to leave the North London at the conclusion of the 2019-20 season, and then face the difficult decision of selling him for less than their asking price or letting him see out the remainder of his contract and duly let him leave the club on a free transfer.
The Arsenal faithful, though, will be hoping that the club agree fresh terms with the 30-year-old who has been heavily linked with a move away from the club.
“I hope Aubameyang will be an Arsenal player next season but they have a decision to make,” Winterburn told Tidesports source.
“Arsenal have never been a big spending club. His contract’s up next season and they’re not going to let someone run down their contract again, although they’ve got little opportunity if he wants to do that.
“If the indication is that he’s not going to sign, they may have to take the opportunity and say ‘right, we’re going to take £40 million or whatever’. I don’t think they’re going to get 70 or 80 that they’re talking about with a year left for a player that’s coming to 31 years of age.
“For me, it’s more important whether the player wants to stay, who comes calling in the summer, and do Arsenal take the risk or can they convince him to sign a new contract? At the moment, it’s so difficult to call,” he concluded.
