Delta Allays Fears Of Suspended Civil Servants
The committee set up by Delta State Government to revisit the issue of suspended civil servants has allayed the fears of the victims.
The civil servants, who were suspended in 2015 by the state government had since been appealing persistently.
Chairman of the group of the suspended civil servants, Comrade Regha Ogbus, while reacting to the development, appreciated the state government for swinging into action by setting up the committee to reinstate them.
He stated that the action of the state government to set up the committee to screen them had allayed the fear of his members, some of whom had been plagued by sickness and joblessness since they were out of work in 2015.
However, he appealed to the committee to be unbiased so as to ensure that its members got their rightful place in the civil service, stating that though some might have come into the service through irregularities, some of them had a genuine case by not buying job slots.
According to Ogbus, “We would not allow any form of shortlisting of our members. I have a strong belief that people would be reinstated and the governor has put people of unquestionable character in the committee.”
He declared that the suspended civil servants from the three senatorial districts around the state voted massively for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the governorship elections, knowing that they would have no hope if the opposition had won.
He however, called on his members to be patient, enjoining them to ensure they met the criteria required for screening by the committee.
He then thanked Governor Okowa for keeping his promise to revisit the issue, while he lauded the Head of Service, Regina Bayoko for his giant strides at ensuring that the suspended civil servants had a voice.
