APC Sweeps Zamfara LG Polls
The Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZSIEC) has declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winners of the Local Government Council election held in the state.
Our correspondent reports that 42 political parties participated in the polls, but the major opposition political parties in the state boycotted the elections.
The Tide recalls that some political parties in the state, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord Party, had last week filed a case at the state High Court in Gusau, challenging the State Independent Electoral Commission over failure to serve election notice to political parties in the state.
But declaring the result, the Executive Chairman of the commission, AlhajiGarba Muhammad, said: “In accordance with the Law of the Commission No 4 2012 as ammended, I, Garba Muhammad as the Chief Returning of the LG election in Zamfara, hereby announce the results of the 14 local government elections conducted by the commission on Saturday, April 27, 2019.”
Muhammad said 147 candidates of the councillorship positions and 28 chairmanships and vice chairmanship candidates of the APC also won the elections in all the 14 local government areas of the state.
He listed the winners of Chairmanship positions of the 14 local government areas as follows:
- Anka – Ahmad Balarabe with 38,698 votes
- Birnin/Magaji – Muhammad Umar – 67,002 votes
- Bungudu – Abdul’aziz Ahmad – 75,219 votes,
- Bakura – DandareDandako – 65,060 votes
- Bukkuyum – NasiruZarumi – 64,049 votes
- Gummi – Kabiru S-Aski – 53,668 votes
- Gusau – AlhajiBabangida – 115,142 votes
- Kaura/Namoda – LawalAbdullahi – 62,051 votes.
- Maradun – Ahmad Abubakar – 50,812 votes
- Maru – SalisuIsah – 75,274 votes
- Shinkafi – Sani Galadi – 48,469 votes
- Talata-Mafara – LawalMarafa – 70,625 votes
- Tsafe – AminuMudi – 74,521 votes
- Zurmi – AwwalBawa – 76,510 votes
The chairman thanked the state government for providing logistics support to the commission.
He also commended security agencies in the state for ensuring peaceful atmosphere in the state during the election.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
