Mile One Traders Laud Wike Over Market Project
Mile One market traders in Rumuwoji Community, Port Harcourt have lauded the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for addressing the plight of the traders as he rebuilt the burnt Mile One market Phase II.
The traders gave the kudos during the project inspection tour to the market by governor Wike over the weekend.
Speaking to our correspondent, a petty trader along Ikwerre road, Mrs Ibiso Johnson, said that governor Wike had broken the camel’s back by embarking on the re-construction of the old burnt Mile One market to a standard model market of international repute.
She accused the previous administration of betraying the future and hope of the common traders whose survival were dependent on enabling infrastructure and micro incentives, saying that traders were sabotaged and frustrated and now falls back to street trading, pending when the new Mile One market Phase II would be completed and commissioned by the peoples governor, Nyesom Wike.
In his view, Mr Ebere Izuchukwu, a trader along Afikpo Street, lauded Wike for his magnanimity and support towards commercial activities in the area, saying that the reconstruction of the burnt Mile One market in Rumuwoji Community would boost business activities and enhance the revenue generation of the government as well as create more opportunities and space for commercial engagements.
He charged the Federal Government and Independent National Electoral Commission to declare Wike the winner of the election, noting that Governor Wike is the peoples governor that need not canvas for the votes, rather his good works earned him “Mr. Project” and people voted for him massively in that direction.
“He is the man we know and he will surely be there for second tenure to commission more projects for the state,” he added.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
