Rivers Collapsed Building Panel Ends Sitting
The Rivers State Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate immediate and remote causes of the collapsed seven storey building at GRA, Woji axis, last year has concluded sitting with an assurance to present recommendations that will help the state address the challenges of urban development in the state
The commission also disclosed that some of its recommendations would be on ways to sanitise state ministry of urban development and physical planning of quacks and illegalities and ensure that people with requisite qualifications are giving responsibilities in the ministry.
The Chairman of the five man panel, Justice Adolphous Enebeli, who made this disclosure at the close of the hearing process of the commission last Wednesday in Port Harcourt, averred that the ministry had some individuals who were not qualified to handle the positions they occupied ,adding that such a ministry concerned with physical development must have professionals in the different areas of specialisation.
He assured that their recommendations to Governor would be based on the eighteen point-terms of reference given to the commission.
The chairman commended Governor Wike and all those who contributed to the success of the hearing as he promised that the commission would not be biased in their reports but will give recommendations that would forestall future occurrence of such disasters.
