Rivers Monarchs Task FG On East/West Road
The Rivers State Council
of Traditional Rulers has appealed to the Federal Government to come up with concrete plan for the completion of the East/West Road.
The council which said this during its 108/109 quarterly meeting in Port Harcourt regretted that lives were being lost everyday on the road.
Chairman of the council, King Anderson Douglas Jaja, in his address, said the non-completion of the road and the epileptic railway services in the state, were part of the marginalisation of the state by the present Federal Government.
“ We further appeal to the federal government to make our people feel we are part of this federation. Rivers State needs Nigeria as much as Nigeria needs Rivers State,” he said.
The traditional rulers urged the Federal Government to revive the Onne and Port Harcourt Ports to stimulate economic activities as well as complete the domestic wing of the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The traditional rulers, however, commended Governor Nyesom Wike for showing exemplary leadership at the recent commissioning of the international wing of the Port Harcourt Airport .
It also applauded the Governor for the successful hosting of the National Festival for Arts and Culture, and the safe return of delegates to their various homes which according to the Council, have contradicted negative reports about Rivers State not being safe.
