Don’t Be Transactional, Shell GM Tells N’Delta Stakeholders
The External Relations Manager, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), Mr Igo Weli, has charged stakeholders in the Niger Delta not to be too transactional with corporate entities operating in the region.
Weli said, “the practice of collecting N20,000 today from the oil companies because you are desperate is capable of destroying the value and confidence in the Niger Delta region, and could jeopardise future investments worth over N20billion”.
The general manager, who said this while speaking to newsmen during the 2018 SPDC Public Schools Quiz Competition, in Port Harcourt, recently, frowned at some stakeholders’ sharp practices targeted at oil multinationals in the region, which according to him, was making the environment un-conducive for businesses to thrive.
According to him, “For us in Shell, we provide opportunities for young scholars, who, want to excel in their academics with a view to giving them solid foundation to secure good jobs after graduation, and that is why we are very keen about stakeholders creating the enabling environment needed for businesses to thrive.
“I hope by the time these young ones are done with schooling, they would be able to build careers in the Niger Delta. I hope by that time, all these big companies would not have left the region because of so much rancour, negativity, and adversarial actions that hostile stakeholders take against big brands and entities in the Niger Delta”, Weli said.
