Rival Cult Clash Claims Two Lives In Rivers …As Police Rescue Kidnap Victim
A cult war involving two rival groups, Icelanders and Dey-Gbam in Omodu clan, Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has claimed two lives.
Community sources said that the two cult members killed, last Wednesday, were members of the Dey-Gbam group who may have been caught unprepared.
The killing came barely a month after the village administered traditional oath against cultists, kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminal elements.
Community sources revealed that there was several hours of shooting as the armed men believed to be cultist invaded the community.
The sources said tension was still high in Ubima, as some natives had deserted their homes over fears of reprisals.
The Tide recalls that Ubima vigilance chairman was killed two months before the administering of the traditional oath.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, proved abortive as he did not respond to several calls put across to his mobile phone by our reporter.
Meanwhile, security operatives have rescued one Sydney Onoh from kidnappers in a swamp in Nkpolu community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The Tide gathered that Onoh was rescued, yesterday, by men of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit.
He was kidnapped, last Saturday, just outside his residence in Mercy area of Rumuigbo community, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, while returning from work; even as his car was taken away by the hoodlums.
