PHED Trains 12,000 Rivers Civil Servants On Energy Efficiency
About 12,640 civil servants drawn from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of Rivers State Government have benefited from Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) energy efficiency programme.
This became possible following PHED’s efforts to enlighten over 500 communities in addition to 300 schools and 10,000 corps members in her franchise area within the last two years on best ways to conserve energy.
The distribution firm said the enlightenment campaign was designed to cascade the advantages of using energy saving equipment.
Declaring open the programme in his office in Port Harcourt, Head of Service, Barrister Rufus Godwins expressed delight over the decision of PHED to educate the civil servants, especially on how to manage energy efficiently.
Godwins promised to accord the company all the necessary support for the programme to succeed, and urged all MDAs to avail themselves the opportunity offered by the programme to imbibe energy efficiency management as the best way to go.
However, he noted with dismay the epileptic power supply in the country, saying that any nation desirous of industrial growth must improve its power supply.
Speaking, Manager, Corporate Communications, PHED, John Onyi, thanked the state government for the gesture, and urged other states within the company’s operations to emulate Rivers State Government.
A cross section of participants interviewed after the programme, expressed satisfaction over the development, describing it as a necessity which would help in managing energy consumption.
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, it would be recalled, was the first in Nigeria among the Discos to have introduced energy efficiency programme in her system.
The Tide learnt that the programme was aimed at informing and educating electricity users, and indeed, customers on how to manage their energy/consumption efficiently by using energy saving appliances.
