Navy Vows To Tackle Maritime Threats In N’Delta
Following frequent attacks on vessels and crew members by sea pirates in the coastal region, the Nigerian Navy has vowed to intensify efforts in tackling the Growing maritime challenges.
It said that it would deepen human capacity to curb the increasing threats on the waterways.
Addressing the graduands of the Naval War College Nigeria, NWCN, in Ubima, Rivers State, the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen Abayomi Olunisakin said the 21st Century Commander must not only display professional knowledge and competence, but more importantly comply with rules of engagement in all missions and as well respect human rights.
According to him, “it is my conviction therefore that the in-depth academic and operational exercises you have been exposed to in the college have equipped you with the necessary competence to function efficiently in the evolving operational environment you are returning to.”
Olonisalem who was the Special Guest on the occasion held at the college witnessed the middle level commanding participant award of fellow of the college.
Earlier in his address, Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Thaddeus Udofia said after six months academic and operational training on Naval Warfare and inter-agency – cooperation, the participant attained 64.28 percent performance score, over two percent higher than the College Foundation course one which passed out in 2017.
He commended the management of University of Port Harcourt, National Defence College, British Military Advisory Team as well as the united building supports to the college.
Rear Admiral Udofia said, Commander O.E Oladipo emerged the NWCN Course of Best participant in overall scores and that with Best Researched Paper among the others awarded for excellent performance over the training.
Dignitaries at the occasion include the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, other service chiefs from sister military agencies and paramilitary organisations and representatives of development partners to the college.
