Group Mobilises For Wike’s Second Term
A socio-political group in Rivers State, the Wike Continuity Movement (WCM), has taken giant steps to ensure that the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike is re-elected for a second term come 2019, as it mobilises support for the governor in the 23 local government areas of the state.
Thr goup, which dropped the hint in a statement issued in Port Harcourt last Friday and signed by its Coordinator General, Chief Uchenna Okokoba, Secretary General, Alhaji Bala Umaru and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Stanley Obaro said it took up the gauntlet to mobilise and campaign for Wike’s re-election bid because it was satisfied with the present administration’s achievements so far and also for the sheer fact that the governor has kept his electioneering campaign promises.
Members of the group, who recently dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cited the non-fulfilment of promises made by the APC-led Federal Government to Nigerians in 2015 as reason for pitching their political tent in the PDP, stressing that they had found out that all such promises made by the APC were all deceit.
“After our defection, since February this year, we believe Rivers people and Nigerians have seen what has happened in the political landscape in the few past months and still happening now”, the statement said.
The group, which said it has over 50,000 members across the state including coordinators in the 23 local government areas, said part of its assignment is to spread the good news of what Governor Wike is doing in Rivers State and to help make the electorate see reasons why he should come back in 2019 to complete the good works he started”.
It further noted that the group has been sensitising both its members and the public on the need to have their Permanent Voters Cards and has achieved over 97 per cent success in this regard while still mobilising to ensure that its new members and the majority of the electorate have their PVCs, adding that it is currently strategising on how to start a door to door campaign for the governor.
“Our vision is that Chief Wike completes his eight years tenure in office and even find a way to serve his people better beyond 2023 in another higher capacity, because he has been tested, trusted and proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is a fearless leader, a performer, political juggernaut, political bulldozer, political timber and caliber and a true leader of men”, it said.
The group, therefore, urged the opposition APC and other political parties to leave Rivers State for PDP because “Rivers State is PDP and PDP is Rivers State”, insisting that in a free and fair contest, PDP would clinch over 75 percent votes in the state in 2019.
