The Chairman of Egbeda Conflict Resolution and Project Committee, Comrade Chibuzor Ogbuji has berated Emohua Local Government Council Chairman, Chief Tom Aliezi, over his description of Egbeda as ‘senseless’ in a radio interview in Port Harcourt.
Ogbuji, who made the condemnation while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt yesterday, noted that the untoward statement made by the council chairman underscored the fact that he was bereft of ideas on how to manage the security challenges confronting his area of jurisdiction.
He explained that Chief Aliezi had at other times made disparaging statements about Egbeda and advised that such careless statements were not suppossed to be made by a Chief Security Officer of a local government council.
Ogbuji averred that the primary responsilbity of government at any level was the maintenance of law and order.
He noted that the council chairman had failed to understand that the summering cultism ravaging the rural communities of the state did not originate from Egbeda and might not end in Egbeda. He stated that Egbeda people had distinguished themselves in different areas of human endeavours and could not be adjudged in parochial terms of being ‘senseless’.
Ogbuji said what was happening in Egbeda was a spill-over of what happened in other Ikwerre communities in recent times and expressed hope that the challenge would soon be a thing of the past.
