State governments in the country still owing arrears of salaries and allowances to their workers have been called upon to effect such payments without further delay.
Enugu State Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe made the call in a chat with journalists in Enugu.
Igbokwe, who described non-payment of workers’ salaries and allowances as man inhumanity to man, urged state governors to device means of alleviating the sufferings of workers rather than increasing them.
Nigerian workers, he went on are suffering untold hardship imposed on them by the harsh economic situation in the country.
The labour leader, therefore, advised state governors to introduce health insurance and building of low cost housing estate for their workers as means of making life meaningful for them and members of their families.
On the implementation of the proposed new national minimum wage of N50,000, Igbokwe said that state governments in Nigeria have no option than to pay the proposed minimum wage, adding that the implementation of the proposed minimum wage was billed to take off in September this year.
