Police Begin Probe Into Fracas At Lafia Market
The Police in Nasarawa State have begun investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of one person at Ashangwa Market after a pandemonium, last Tuesday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Samaila Usman, said this at a news conference, yesterday, in Lafia.
According to him, the police on Tuesday received reports that some people disrupted commercial activities at the market during which one person was killed and three others were injured.
“From preliminary investigation, one person who was killed, his remains were burnt and buried by unidentified persons, while the three who were seriously injured are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Lafia,” he said.
He said that though no arrest had been made yet in connection to the fracas that broke out between some groups he did not identify, the police would uncover the perpetrators.
Usman said some personnel had already been deployed to the scene of the fracas in order to ensure restoration of peace. He assured the public that the police would go after all culprits in the crisis and bring them to justice, warning members of the public against acts of lawlessness.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
