Nigerian Airline Increases Fleet …To Fly London, China, US Routes
Nigeria’s leading carrier, Air Peace in strengthening its position as number one flyers’ choice yesterday took delivery of its second Boeing 777 aircraft in Lagos.
Air Peace second Boeing 777 after taxing to a stop at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos on Saturday made history as the first Nigeria carrier to acquire and take delivery of a Boeing 777-200 on February 23, 2018, assured that it would soon announce dates for the launch of its long-haul operations to London-Houston, Dubai, Sharjah, Guangzhou-China, Mumbai and Johannesburg.
In a press statement signed by the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Chris Iwarah, and made available to our correspondent in Lagos, said that the new aircraft, a 320-seater Boeing 777-300 named “Ojochide” and marked 5N-BUU, was flown into the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos by Air Peace Chief Pilot, Capt. Victor Egonu and Senior First Officer Emmanuel Iwhiwhu.
The Aircraft touched down to a rousing welcome by staff of the carrier, aviation workers and water salute staged by men of the Fire Service of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at about 1:36 pm.
Speaking moments after the aircraft landed, Air Peace Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Allen Onyema assured that the Airline was now ready to begin its international operations and fix the challenges of Nigerians, African and other travelers on the long-haul routes.
Onyema, who was represented by Air Peace Chief Operating Officer, Mrs Oluwatoyin Olajide, said the carriers’ international operations would boost Nigeria’s aviation and allied sectors and offer travellers an exceptional choice.
“We are very happy we’ve taken delivery of another of our Boeing 777 aircraft in preparation for our international operations and we’re looking at commencing operations on one of the routes before the last quarter of the year.
“We believe that this will enable us to create more employment opportunities for Nigerians because that is the reason we exist. We want to help curb the unemployment situation in the country”, Onyema said.
The Air Peace boss explained further that the airline received its first Boeing 777-200 aircraft in February, adding that two more of the aircraft type were being expected before the end of the year to boost the airlines international operations.
Onyema confirmed that the Federal Government had designated Air Peace to operate flights to London, Houston Dubai, Sharjah, Guangzhou-China, and Johannesburg.
He commended the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika and President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting Nigerian Airlines with the removal of Value Added Tax and granting of waivers on aircraft spares.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
