ILAN Boss Promises Accessibility, Affordability In Insurance Services
The President, Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria (ILAN), Alhaji Femi Hassan has said that the Insurance Industry Consultative Council (IICC), the umbrella body for all insurance institutions in Nigeria is committed to making insurance services accessible and affordable to all individuals and businesses, irrespective of networth and sizes.
He said that they are committed to ensuring that the more than 40 million Nigerians who are excluded financially are empowered and brought into the system through insurance.
Hassan, who said this while speaking to newsmen in Lagos, on Monday, explained that the IICC consists of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), and Nigerian Insurance Association (NIA).
Others are Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB0 and the Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria (ILAN).
According to him, the 2012 Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access (EFInA) Survey had revealed that 40 million adults are still financially excluded.
He said that the above huddle had prevented many adults from contributing maximally to national development, adding that such would be addressed.
“The outcome of the survey made the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to launch the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) in October, 2012.
“The aim of the NFIS was to reduce the number of Nigerians that are excluded financially and get them empowered, promote savings, increase investments and income among others,” he said.
He however assured that the insurance industry would stop at nothing to increase its contributions to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product and expressed hope that insurance penetration would increase as Nigerians would be sensitised and encouraged.
