Boat Mishap: Search Parties Set To Find Missing Children
Following the unfortunate boat mishap that occurred recently along the waterfront in Port Harcourt, Marine Base, Okrika, search parties have embarked on a mission to find the two missing underaged children.
The children whose names were given as Destiny Amamina and Ingowari Amamina were among the 24 passengers that were involved in the accident, even as 22 occupants of the boat have been rescued.
The search parties who comprised of local divers, marine police and safety officers told The Tide yesterday that, they would not relent on their mission until the two missing children were found, either dead or alive.
One of the divers, who spoke to The Tide on condition of anonymity, expressed sadness at the accident and blamed the mishap on the recklessness of the drivers and dumping of debris into the river by residents.
He explained that 22 passengers have been rescued, remaining the two children, adding that they would ensure that all occupants of the unfortunate boat were recovered.
The diver appealed to the state government to ensure safety rules at the Jetties across the state to reduce accidents.
He frowned at incessant boat accident in the Port Harcourt waterways in recent times that had claimed the lives of three persons.
The rescue operator called for the removal of debris in all the waterways in the state by government to allow for easy marine transportation.
It would be recalled that in less than seven days, two separate boat mishaps within Port Harcourt metropolis had claimed three lives and rendered water travelers in a state of panic and confusion.
