Nigeria Needs Vibrant Leaders – Cleric
A cleric of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, Bishop Romel Emenike, has said that the leadership that Nigeria needs now is the type that harnesses the economic resources of the country and transforms them into real development.
Emenike, who was speaking in an interview with airport correspondents at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa, Thursday noted that Nigeria is endowned with a lot of agricultural and mineral resources of different categories, but wondered why up till now, such minerals could not be properly harnessed for development and employment.
According to him, the nation has depended so much on oil as a main stay of the economy, adding that other areas need to be put into proper use to create employment as well as advance the economy.
He said that there are individuals in this country who have excelled in their areas of business and callings, pointing out that such people like the former Central Bank Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, Aliko Dangote among others who have done well in business and economy, should be given the chance to lead the country to economic advancement.
“We do not need old cargoes and retired generals who can not harness our economy to lead this country again.
“I urge the electorate to look out for those who have excelled in business and economy to elect them. The era of money politics and election of leaders who pay their way to office should be over.
“All we want is a better economy where our mineral resources will be better harnessed to create employment and economic advancement, just like in the United States where Donald Trumph who has done well in business is elected to lead the country”, he said.
The Brotherhood priest also urged the youths and other stakeholders to be focused on economic potentials of the country which could be better harnessed rather than looking out for who will give them money during election and after that, abandon the development of the country for selfish gains.
