N200m Loan: RSG Sets Up Disbursement Committee
The Rivers State Government has set up an executive committee headed by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon Emeka Onowu, to disburse the N200million interest-free loan approved by Governor Nyesom Wike for traders and young entrepreneurs in the state.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the weekly state Executive Council meeting yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Barr Emma Okah also disclosed that the council continued deliberations on the forthcoming third anniversary celebration of the administration which will be marked with fanfare in view of the lofty achievements recorded within the period.
According to Barr Okah, no fewer than 36 projects have been earmarked to be completed and commissioned as part of the anniversary celebrations.
Some of the projects to be commissioned, he said, include: Garrison-Trans-Amadi-Slaughter Road; Isiokpo and Elele Alimini internal roads; Bishop Fubara and Captain Amangala Streets in Borokiri, Creek Road, Ogbumnabali internal roads, Bonny/Bille Jetty; Port Harcourt Tourist Beach; Cultural Centre and the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers Complex among others.
The Information Commissioner said the state executive council noted with satisfaction the successful fencing of Bishop Okoye Street in Mile Three Diobu as part of measures to control street trading in the area, stressing that government was resolved to finally ending the menace for illegal trading on the streets in the state capital and its environs.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
