State Of Enitonna High School Worries Principal, Others
Worried by the present condition of their school, members of Enitonna High School Old Students Association (EHSOSAN) says they are set to roll out plans to assist the infrastructural development of the institution.
President of EHSOSAN, Architect Ipalibo West disclosed this at the school’s inter-house sports held in the school.
West said the body will use the 86th anniversary celebration of the school coming up soon in Port Harcourt to gather numerous old students at home and abroad to pull resources together towards infrastructural development of their alma matter.
The EHSOSAN President regretted that the institution which is the oldest secondary school in both Rivers and Bayelsa States as at present, is a shadow of itself.
He said: “The big old hostels, enviable infrastructure and all the attractions that make Enitonna High School stand out in the midst of secondary schools in the society are gone.
“We shall use the 86 anniversary to gather our old students at home and abroad to take up some aspects, like class room or whatever to help our alms matter.
He commended the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for his huge investment in education, especially renovation of schools and appealed to him to extend the gesture to the oldest secondary school in the state by upgrading it to model boarding school as being done to other schools in the state.
Speaking in similar vein, the principal of the school, Mr. Opusunju, who also is an old student of the school said; “the only assembly hall shared by junior and secondary is an eye saw and constitute a hazard to the staff and students.
“it needs renovation, so that devotion, debates and drama can take place under a roof and not in the open”.
The principal also said the school needed an equipped library and toilet facilities to stop students from defecating indiscriminately in the school compound as well as security.
He called on stakeholders including the old students to come to the school as a way of giving back to the institution that contributed to what they are today in life.
