Manufacturer Lauds FG’s Fertilizer Initiative
A Fertilizer manufacturer in Ebonyi State, Mr Vincent Uguru has commended the Federal Government for providing raw materials for the production of fertilizers in the state.
Uguru, who is the Managing Director of Ebony Fertilizers and Chemical Ltd, made the commendation yesterday in an interview with newsmen at the ongoing 29th Enugu International Trade Fair.
The manufacturer said that the fertilizer had helped to enhance food production not only in Ebonyi but in neighbouring states.
”Ebony Fertilizers Limited is owned by Ebonyi State Government and it has been in existence since 2004.
”We have been supporting the nation by selling the product to states in the federation.
”We are deeply into the presidential fertilizer initiative of the Federal Government, where the government brings in raw materials which we use to produce the farm input.
”This helps to bring down the price to enable more farmers to increase their production.
Uguru made it clear that the fertilisers were not harmful to crops and it boosts farmlands.
”Fertilizer is used to enhance food production, because if you look at a land frequently used overtime, if you don’t apply fertilizer, you will not get positive outcome.
”The fertilizer is meant to be used as often as you can farm and blend in a way that you do not run into risk.
”We are able to use the best quality materials so that it will not have harmful effects on crops, environment and animals,” Uguru said.
He said that the government had helped in subsidizing prices for each bag of fertilizer for easy purchase.
According to him, we sell N5,500 per bag of 50kg as against between N8,500 and N9,000 sold in the open market because the government subsidized the price to make it affordable to farmers.
He said that he was at the fair to bring fertilizer to the doorstep of every farmer in Enugu to help enhance food production.
”We want to bridge the gap between fertilizer producers and farmers to enable them produce more food,” he said.
