Make Security, Sanitation Your Priorities, Wike Tells CTC Chairmen
Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has urged newly sworn -in Chairmen of Caretaker Committees of Local Government Areas to give priority attention to security and sanitation in their domains.
Wike gave the charge last Saturday while swearing-in 13 caretaker committee chairmen in Government House, Port Harcourt.
He specifically tasked those of Eleme, Oyigbo and Port Harcourt to complement the effort on the State Environmental Authority to help evacuate waste along major roads in their domains.
The governor charged those of Khana, Gokana and Abua/Odual to maintain the prevailing peace, as he urged them “ don’t go and and bring back crisis in your area.”
He also enjoined CTC Chairman of Akuku-Toru to liase with security agencies and other chairmen along the Emohua-Kalabari Road to beef up the security of the area following what he described as rising spate of criminality along the route.
Meanwhile, Wike has warned newly sworn-in caretaker chairmen against the mismanagement of council funds for personal benefits or to influence top government officials or their families.
Wike said “ I have not asked any chairman to bring money for me. So don’t use my name to go and make money.”
He frowned at a situation where council chairmen use the name of the governor to obtain money from unsuspecting public warning, “ even those of you who have godfathers, If you do anything I don’t like you will go.”
The governor further enjoined them to stay in their domain and carry out the responsibility they are bestowed upon.
