The Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Adama Inyie Iyayi-Lamikanra has said the judiciary in the state enjoys full autonomy as an independent arm of government under the present administration in the state, led by Governor Nyesom Wike.

According to her, the state Judiciary has existed for five decades since its creation, and currently has 35 judges sitting at both High Courts and Customary Courts of Appeal, with 11 Judicial Divisions as well as 38 magisterial districts across the 23 local government areas of the state manned by 50 magistrates of various cadres.
She further disclosed that there are 32 Customary Courts spread across the 23 local government areas, with a total of 96 chairmen and members.

“Let me use this opportunity to commend the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for implementing rule of law and allowing the state Judiciary to enjoy independence as well as infrastructural development in the Judiciary.
“This has justified the governor’s maiden speech and promises to keep to the rule of law: Today, we are celebrating the state’s Judiciary at 50 with happiness and peace while we believe that the future has more hopes”.
The State Chief Judge promised that the Judiciary, under her watch, will continue to partner with the other arms of government through quick administration of justice in other to encourage investor confidence in the state’s economy.
Justice Iyayi-Lamikanra used the opportunity to commend her predecessors, governors and military administrators for the development of the state Judiciary.
