PH Pleasure Park’ll Attract 2m Tourists Annually -Tam-George
The Rivers State Government has said that the newly constructed Port Harcourt Pleasure Park will attract over two million tourists on a yearly basis.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr Austin Tam-George, disclosed this during the formal commissioning of the recreational facility in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
The commissioner said the initiative was part of the governor’s commitment to diversify the Rivers economy from oil and gas by harnessing the enormous tourist potential in the state.
He noted that Governor Nyesom Wike’s vision of converting an otherwise criminal den to a splendorous aquatic site is a justification of the governor’s commitment to transform all aspects of the Rivers economy.
Tam-George, who described the facility as world-class, said it will not only serve the leisure interest of the people but generate revenue, and create employment for the people of Rivers State.
Commenting on the sustainability of the project, the commissioner said the facility will be managed by Julius Berger for the next two years, before being handed over to a new management team.
He, however, maintained that standards will not be compromised in the management of the project.
He added that the project will be explored to its fullest potential, and capacity, as more facilities such as a cinema centre will be built.
