Wike Commissions 13 Transformers ….As Sekibo Empowers Communities

As part of his empowerment scheme, the Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, has complemented the efforts of the Rivers State Government in rural electrification as he donated 13 brand new transformers and grinders to communities in his constituency.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Rumuodara, Port Harcourt, last Saturday, Sekibo said the gesture was to support the state government’s rural electrification programme, and also improve the welfare of his constituents.
Sekibo explained that the choice of beneficiaries was done in consultation with the state government, emphasising that the governor as the leader of the state knows where and what the people need.
“Based on His Excellency directives, I have come to present these transformers to communities that are in dire need of them,” he said.
The Senator disclosed that he had also provided some office tools such as computers and printers, among others, to the Student Union Governments in the tertiary institutions, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Youth Wing and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state, to appreciate their peaceful disposition and vigilance in the state, especially during the past elections.
Commissioning the transformers, the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said the focus of his government was to ensure that the economy of the state gets a boost, adding that there was nearly uninterrupted power supply in the state as the state government has began talks with Independent Power Producers on how to power some major infrastructure in the state.
Represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Engr Emeka Woke, the governor stated that the state government places high premium on ensuring steady power supply in the state to ensure businesses thrive, adding that one of the ways to actualise this was through the noble acts of patriotic citizens like Sekibo, who has contributed immensely through his numerous donations and effective representation to the development of the state.
He stated that the electrification of Omuma Local Government Area would be ready for commissioning soon, adding that other communities have benefitted from the electrification of his administration which is geared to improve electricity supply in the rural communities, support micro economic activities for our teeming unemployed youth.
He urged the beneficiaries not to dump the transformers at their back yards, but channel any complaints to the senator or the state government to ensure that the transformers are put to proper use.
Responding, the Nyeweli of Choba, Eze Raymond Okocha, said the presentation was not a political party affair, but a Rivers State affair, adding that Rivers State would remain one united family.
He stated that by his activities, Sekibo was one in a million as not everybody sent on a mission comes back to say thank you or to even remember his people.
