RSG Recognises Etche’s Potential In Dev
The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo says the state government recognises the potential of Etche Ethnic Nationality in the human and material resources development of the State.
Banigo, who made the remark while speaking at the 1st Ogbakor Etche Action Group Annual Public Lecture and Book Presentation held at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, explained that the manpower base and agricultural prowess of the people of Etche have made the area a critical part of the state.
Represented by her Special Assistant on Legal Matters, Barrister Ishmael Blue-Jack, the deputy governor noted the enormous contribution of Eze E.N.B. Opurum towards the creation and development of Rivers State.
She said Governor Wike has already started the process of re-writing the history of Etche Ethnic Nationality by the appointment of their illustrious sons into positions of authority and the recent flag off of construction and rehabilitation of roads in the area.
Banigo described Eze Opurum as a unifier and bridge builder whose exemplary lifestyle should be emulated by the younger generation to promote an egalitarian society.
In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion and former military governor of old Rivers State, Alfred Diete-Spiff, described Eze Opurum as one of the strong pillars in the creation of Rivers State.
Diete Spiff, who is the Amanyanabo of Twon Brass expressed gratitude to governor Wike for the inclusion of Etche in his development agenda, and urged the people to be united in order to move Etche land forward.
Delivering a lecture on ”The Development of Rivers State: Chief E.N.B. Opurum’s Role In It”, the Vice-Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Professor Ozo-mekuri Ndimele noted that Eze Opurum played prominent roles in all the struggles for the creation and development of Rivers State.
Ndimele disclosed that as one of the founding fathers of Rivers State, he became one of the foundational members of the State Executive Council who charted the part for massive transformation of the state, particularly Port Harcourt, the state capital.
