Analyst Advocates Review Of Lawmakers’ Salaries, Allowances
The need to review the
salaries and allowances of members of the National Assembly has been advocated.
A public analyst, Comrade Binoye Sunday, who made this assertion in a chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt said the need became necessary following the dwindling fortunes of the nation’s economy.
He said the lawmakers should at this time of the period sacrifice for the country and accept the change matrac for the interest of their father land Nigeria.
The analyst noted that review of the salaries and allowances of Senators, House of Representatives, Ministers and other government functionaries would no doubt help improve the economy of the country that is in a sorry situation, adding that for transparency, the Federal Government should make known the salaries and allowances of the lawmakers as part of their efforts in fighting corruption.
“Making public the salaries and allowances of these public officials will give Nigerians the confidence that the present government is out to fight corruption”, he opined.
On the recent increase of petrol pump price form N65.50k to N145.00, Sunday condemned the act, stressing that it was done purely to undue the common masses in the society.
The public analyst called for building of more refineries in the country rather than refining petroleum outside the country, as well as probe the activities of marketers in the process of crude oil refining abroad, saying such would help revive the ailing economy of the country.
“As the Federal Government is busy removing the subsidy, they should be busy equally to build refineries so that our crude oil will be refined in Nigeria in order to create job opportunities, because the federal government is aware of the youth restiveness in Niger Delta and other parts of the country, and the only solution is to build more refineries.

Comrade Sunday however commended President Muhammadu Buhari on his fight against corruption, but said it should cut across all manner of people in the society, pointing out that no one should be sacred cow or play partisan politics as Nigerians are still watching to see the change.
