Isaka Appeals For Landing Jetties
The people of Isaka
community in Okrika local government area have appealed to the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, to provide them with a landing jetty in order to caution their transportation problems.
The chairman, Isaka Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr Tamunoigbeinbia Reuben James, who made the appeal in a chat with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, Wednesday, said the provision of landing jetties at both ends of the Isaka route would go a long way in alleviating their difficulties of travelling to and from Isaka to Port Harcourt for various endeavours.
James said the school jetty at Isaka has collapsed while that of Port Harcourt that was being reconstructed by the Niger Delta Development Authority (NDDC) had been abandoned, thereby giving the people of the area a great concern on how to travel to their community.
He disclosed that even the students of Sports Institute of Rivers State (SIRS) also found it difficult to attend classes regularly due to the collapsed and dilapidated jetties, pointing out that they used Ibeto Cement area through Nigeria Shipyard premises through the sand to board boat to Isaka, an Island that hosted part of the RIVIFEST in 1993 and 1994.
According to him, landing jetties have been their greatest problem coupled with electricity and portable water, and expressed optimism that the governor who has the development of both the upland and reverine at heart would come to their aid to give them a sense of belonging and enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The Isaka CDC chairman also lauded Governor Nyesom Wike on his numerous developmental projects in the state and enjoined him not to relent despite the distractions.
