Re-Run Polls: Cleric Cautions Politicians Against Violence
As the Rivers State re-
run election into the Federal and State Legislative Houses slated for March 19th, 2016 draws closer, politicians and the electorate in Emohua Local Government Area have been warned against violence and electoral malpractices.
A renowned man of God, Hon Rev. Peter W Georgwill, gave the warning in Rumuobasi-Rumuche Emohua while addressing a large crowd of people who gathered to celebrate the Supreme Court victory of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike recently.
He urged them to elect tested and trusted candidates who would represent their interest and bring home the dividends of the present political dispensation and not politicians with selfish interest and fraudulent tendencies.
Rev. Georgewill who is also a member of the Rivers State Pilgrims Welfare Board and Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), LGA branches coalition in the state, noted that politics is not a do or die affair, but a means of electing credible leaders into positions of authority for the good of the people and development of the state.
He, however, urged them to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates, in the March 19th, 2016 re-run election in the state.
He maintained that Governor Wike is the divine vessel God is using to salvage the people of the state from poverty and under development.
The high point of the celebration was the reception of over 200 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Rumuobasi (Ward 4) to the PDP.
According to their spokesman, Mr Salvation Innocent Mini, the decampees decided to join the PDP because they were tired of the lies and deceit of the APC leaders.
According to him, the victory of Governor Wike at the Supreme Court is the last straw that broke the APC’s back in Emohua clan.
Mr Mini noted that APC has lost political grip of the area and stressed that the re-run election in the state is a mere formality “because the victory of PDP is a foregone conclusion”.
Addressing the crowd, the Paramount Ruler of Rumuobasi in Rumuche Emohua, Chief Godpower Mini noted that Rumuobasi has always been a PDP community and has benefitted from the party through the provision of social infrastructure and appointment of illustrious sons and daughters of Emohua community into public offices. He said the community had decided to reciprocate the kind gesture of the party by giving the PDP a bulk vote in the forthcoming re-run election in the state.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
