DACCIMA Trains 50 Youth On Agric Ventures
The Delta State Associa
tion of Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (DACCIMA), says it has trained 50 youths in the state in various agricultural ventures.
The President of DACCIMA, Mr Simon Asite, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Warri.
Asite said that the training was to complement the youths development programme of the present administration in the state.
He said that the 50 youths were part of the 200 that enrolled for the training programme, being executed in batches.
He said that the programme started in 2015, adding that the beneficiaries were trained in cassava and maize farming.
“The Delta State Government cannot absorb everybody into the public service. We also try to train people on agriculture so long as they are willing and prepared to learn.
“We charge as little as N5,000 for a training duration of about two months. The association has a large expanse of land in Abraka where the training takes place.
“After certifying that the trainees are strong enough to be on their own, we allocate them land individually to cultivate.
“We also urge them to train more persons and that is the hallmark of the initiative,’’ he said.
Asite said the association was holding discussions with the Delta Ministry of Agriculture on how to train more youths on bee keeping.
The president said that bee keeping was a money-spinning venture that was not capital intensive.
“Another area of opportunity is the bee keeping business. Honey could be used for pharmaceutical purposes, personal consumption and cosmetics,’’ he said.
He urged the state government to enlighten the people more on the benefits of agriculture.
Asite also appealed to the unemployed in the state to embrace agriculture for their own good.
