Christian Pilgrims Board Wants Journalists To Be Objective
The Chairman, Rivers State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (RSCPWB), Barr. (Mrs.) Biobele Odesola, has advised journalists to always remain objective in their reportage.
Barr. Odesola gave the advice in Port Harcourt when the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, led by the State Chairman, Mr. Omoni Ayotamuno paid her a courtesy visit.
She noted that as journalists, they have what it takes to make or mar and urged them to shun sensationalism in the discharge of their duties.
The Chairman recalled that the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike had done extremely well within a short time, adding that he deserved to be appreciated through objective coverage by the press.
She enjoined the union to partner with the board in sensitising the citizenry and corporate organisations for private sponsorship of pilgrims in the state as obtained in other States like Lagos.
She reiterated the need for Christians to see pilgrimage as a spiritual exercise and not tourism and lauded the union for the visit.
In his speech, Mr. Ayotamuno commended the governor of the state for reinstating the board as well as appointing the first woman to head the board.
Mr. Ayotamuno who also lauded the governor for his interest in sponsoring pilgrims, pledged the support of the union in the activities of the board.
