In addition to the two deaths, a male survivor also suffered severe burns and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The fire engulfed about seven batchers and destroyed properties.
An eye witness told The Tide that the fire which lasted for more than two hours was eventually put off by the combined efforts of the Rivers State Fire Service and residents of the building.
As at the time of filing this report, The Tide could not ascertain the cause of the fire.
A resident of the building Mr. Effiong Pere, said, efforts were made to put off the fire, but to no avail until members of the fire service arrived.
He suspected the cause of the fire to be a lit candle, adding that there was no power supply at the time of the outbreak, so it could not have been caused by faulty electrical appliances.
