Power Supply: PH Residents Laud Buhari, Wike
Whatever collaborative
efforts by the Federal, and State governments as well as other relevant agencies that resulted in improved electricity supply in Rivers State, has been lauded by the people and residents of Port Harcourt..
The residents who were requested to comment on the state of electricity supply as the new government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, and Governor Nyesom Wike mark their first 100 days in office, said the duo deserve commendations.
Chief Clifford Nwamaka said there has been a remarkable improvement in power supply across the nation since this new regime.
“I commend President Buhari and Governor Wike for this feat and also wish they sustain the level of power supply at all cost. I also commend Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED)”, he said.
Nwamaka said, “not as if the present supply level is the best, but it is a shift away from what we were having before this new government”.
Another respondent, Justus Tonye, said, “it is a credit that no person can take away from Governor Wike and President Buhari, that we are now having better electricity supply.
“If you compare the level of electricity supply today with what we have been having in the past administrations, you surely have to give kudos to the amiable governor of Rivers State and President Buhari”, Tonye stated.
She, however, urged the due to sustain the level of supply and noted that it would bring back the investors that left the shores of Nigeria and also boost socio-economic activities in the country.
Another respondent, Chief Johnson Edum lauded the new administration for its efforts which reflected in increased power supply in the state but remarked that it was not uhuru yet.
“The electricity billing system under estimated system is wrong, unfair and a clear fraud on Nigerians. We would like the government to check the crazy bills coming to consumers through the Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) “, he said.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
