NYC Pledges To Pursue Better Deal For Youth
The National Youth Coun
cil of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter, has pledged to continue to pursue the welfare of the youth in the state and also profer solutions to political crisis affecting the people.
The state Secretary of the Council, Barrister Prince B. Yaale who stated this recently in an interview in Port Harcourt, advised young people to be law-abiding and not to be allowed to be used as political tools for destruction of lives and property.
Yaale reminded the youth that involvement in criminal activities and other social vices constitute impediment to the development of the state, and advised them to always shun violence and work towards making meaningful contributions to the state.
He also called on the youth to always ensure that they engage in selfless service that would contribute to the development of the state, urging them to represent the good image of the state to the outside world.
According to him, the NYC was established by Act of Parliament on 28th August 1964 with a mandate to pilot the affairs of the youth adding that the Council by its Act, is the only authentic voice of the youth in the country.
According to him members are drawn from various youth organizations such as Boys Brigade, Girls Guide, Boys Scout, Man O’War and other volunteer organisations.
He, however, pledged the determination of the new NYC executive to help them acquire skills so that they become useful to themselves and to assist in the training of the youth in the future even as he said the new executive would not stop at fighting against social vices.
The Tide learnt that the Council was engulfed in leadership crisis that lasted about three years.
