AIG Seeks Inter-Agency Collaboration To Fight Militancy
The Assistant Inspector
General of police, zone 6 police command, Calabar, AIG Tunde Ogunsakin, has advocated inter-agency collaboration in order to strengthen the fight against militancy in Nigeria.
He stated this while hosting the Commander, NN victory, Calabar, Commodore M.C.L Bobia, in his office in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
This came barely one week after the police foiled an attack by yet to be identified gumen on its marine post in Calabar.
Ogunsakin, who specifically demanded the immediate formation of a Joint Task force among security agencies, especially in the South South zone, believed that such measure would also help to forestall attacks on security facilities.
While noting that investigation was ongoing to unravel perpetrators of the attack, he expressed optimism that the command’s renewed collaboration with the navy would enhance security on the waterways.
The joint task force, according to the AIG, would periodically comb the creeks with the view to check the activity of criminal elements.
Speaking, Commander Bobia said the visit was intended to reinforce the cordial working relationship between the police and navy in Cross River State.
He assured the police of Nigerian Navy’s cooperation to ensure that perpetrators of the attack on its marine post are brought to book.
The AIG later proceeded to the marine police division, where it was gathered that the gunmen appeared with hand propelled grenade launchers, rocket launchers and multipurpose guns in the prolonged attack.
It could be recalled that during his tenure as commissioner of police, Rivers State Command, Ogunsakin masterminded the formation of a similar inter-agency task force which helped to checkmate crime in the State.
