FG To Collaborate With Firm On Energy Management
Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo, has expressed the Federal Government’s readiness to work with Omatek Ventures Plc on how to address the nation’s power wastages.
Nebo made the declaration at the inauguration of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) solar energy developed and installed by Omatek Ventures in Lagos.
He said that the government would partner the company to solve the nation’s energy problem through usage of energy efficient bulbs.
Nebo said that Nigerians wasted a lot of energy through lighting as 35 per cent of power consumption in Nigeria was by lighting.
“When you use energy efficient bulbs you can save up to 70 per cent energy consumption,” he said.
“Germany as at today has electricity generation of more than 50 per cent by solar and they don’t have as much sunlight as Nigeria,” Nebo said.
He said that Nigeria could do the same to ensure enough power and minimise wastage of energy.
According to him, the company’s initiative is in tandem with the government’s policy and reform in ensuring enhanced power supply with solar energy.
He commended the company for being patriotic in solving national problem of energy wastages.
Nebo also lauded the management of the exchange for working with Omatek Ventures to integrate solar energy in its operations.
“We are happy about the project and happy that NSE is working with Omatek to integrate solar energy component,” Nebo said.
He said that the exchange had demonstrated foresight, visionary leadership, and adaptability to the new technology.
The Group Managing Director, Omatek Ventures Plc, Dr Florence Seriki, said that “Nigerians should join the league of countries having 24 hours light”.
Seriki said that the company would continue to promote national growth and development with innovative solar panels and energy consumption bulbs.
She said that the company decided to solve the nation’s power challenges with the introduction of solar panels and bulbs that could last for five years.
“We don’t want to be in darkness and decided to reduce consumption in every household with Omatek energy bulbs,” Seriki said.
She said that the company’s energy bulbs remained an effective energy management solution for manufacturers, factories, banks and organisations.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
