Uduaghan Commissions 7.8km Umunede-Mbiri Road Project
Delta State Governor,
Emmanuel Uduaghan has warned motorists in the state against recklessness which often leads to avoidable carnage.
The governor gave the warning when he commissioned the 7.8 kilometres Umunede-Mbiri Road in Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state.
“We constructed this road to take people safely to their destination and because of the smoothness of the road people would be tempted to drive on high speed.
“I want to appeal to you that when you are drunk, don’t drive; when you are feeling sleepy, don’t drive and when you take drugs, please don’t drive.
“By God’s grace this road will take us to our destination,” Uduaghan said.
The governor said the road was executed at the cost of N497.12 million and promised to extend it to Mbiri Farm Settlement before the end of his administration.
He expressed hope that the road would improve inter-city transportation, enhance urban growth and communication and reinvigorate commerce and social life in the area.
Uduaghan used the opportunity to canvass for votes for President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP governorship candidate in Delta, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and other candidates of the party in the senatorial district.
He urged the electorate to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), to enable them vote during the elections.
The governor, who had earlier paid a courtesy visit on the Obi of Mbiri, Dr Ifeanyichukwu Alekwe II, commended the unity amongst traditional rulers in the state, and urged their subjects to emulate them in order to attract development to their areas.
“The presence of other traditional rulers here shows the unity among traditional rulers; that is a lesson to all of us who are your subjects,’’ he said.
The Obi commended Uduaghan for keeping to his promise to rehabilitate the Umunede-Mbiri road, and assured him of the support of his people during the polls.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Works, Mr Funkekeme Solomon, said the Umunede-Mbiri road project was awarded in October 2014 at a cost of N497.12 million.
