That OBJ’s Call For Divine Intervention
The degree of eco
nomic meltdown and corruption in our present dispensation is alarming. This was why a former president, General Olusegun Obasanjo called for divine intervention.
Fortunately, a discussion on OBJ’s call for divine intervention in our national life was aired by a radio station in Port Harcourt. On the programme , views and counter-views on OBJ’s call were expressed. I listened to the discussion and feel obliged to make the following assertion.
Truly, God is not obstinate about the affairs of humanity on earth,. Let me state that divine intervention was already made by God as soon as corruption was muted by Lucifer (Satan) in heaven as well as in the human environment through the instrumentality of Adam and Eve who were placed in the Garden of Eden at creation.
One vital attribute or quality of God is that He is ‘Omniscient’. The situation of corruption in Nigeria and other nations are not unknown to Him. It is by the grace of God that we are able to thrive even though man does not deserve it. God has continued to show mercy by intervening in our situation in spite of our wickedness.
“Wise men and philosophers of old had called on man to trust in God and lean not on his own understanding. Man should always acknowledge his creator and walk according to his precepts and instructions. Then humanity will be directed divinely.
Actually, man was created moral, and given the freedom and power of choice to exercise his franchise. He is not to be treated like robots on the surface of the earth. This is wisdom and love of God for mankind which is unquestionable. Unfortunately, man has goofed and would continue to goof until he comes to his senses like the biblical prodigal son to acknowledge the divine intervention that had been available (Luke 15:11-22)
Nigerians need total turn around and overhauling from our inherent corrupt nature. Then God will reveal his plan to us. God is not tyrannical or dictatorial but faithful and kind to mankind to the point of redeeming man from the rudiments of sin and Satan, as the supreme price was paid on the Cross of Calvary in the person of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago. What kind of divine intervention is more than providing someone who sacrificed his own life for the salvation of humanity?
Furthermore, if our eyes were opened to see clearly it is obvious that man is the architect of his predicaments on earth and not God. God asserted that he had a plan for humanity, that is plan of peace and not of evil and to bring humanity to an expected end, see Jeremiah 29 vs 11, 12. Imagine!
In the OBJ’s call for God’s intervention, some views about God were expressed. It is said that every nation has its own God or deity. And these deities could intervene for the countries. The truth here is that there is only One God, creator of the entire universe who created visible, invisible, animate and inanimate things in the universe.
Therefore, it is only a fool that can say there is no God. Psalm 14 refers. The divine intervention is not about gods, demons and evil spirits but of Jehovah who wrought miracles and wonders.
Divine intervention is already with us but we are short-sighted about it. It appears nothing is happening. Therefore, the solution is for us to lift up our eyes of faith and trust in the divine providence of God and hearken to his infallible and unmistakable plan. Sincerely, without divine intervention, humanity would have been extinguished long before now by the evil scheming of the devil. At this juncture, Nigerians are behaving like Thomas who was with Jesus, The Light of the world, yet he asked for the father and the true way (John 1 vs 10,11, 14 vs 4-7).
