Police Proposes N24bn To Fuel Patrol Vans …As Suicide Bomber Kills 18 In Borno
The Nigeria Police Force has proposed to spend N24billion on fuel and maintain its patrol vehicles across the country in the 2015 fiscal year.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of logistics and supplies, Mr. Ibrahim Tsafe, stated this yesterday when he defended the 2015 budget estimates of the force before the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, in Abuja.
Tsafe explained that the force has a fleet of 13, 083 patrol vehicles, including 2, 937 motorcycles nationwide.
According to him, N11billion would be spent to fuel 8, 698 petrol engine vehicles with 40 litres capacity tank while N4.2billion would be spent to fuel all its 1, 448 diesel engine vehicles with 50 litre capacity.
Tsafe who added that N932.6million would be spent on to fuel 2, 937 motorcycles, explained that N45, 000 would be spent on each of the petrol engine patrol vehicles per annum while N90, 000 would be spent on each of the diesel engine patrol vehicles.
Meanwhile, eighteen people were killed in a suicide bombing at a crowded bus station in Biu, Borno State yesterday, adding to this week’s death toll in the restive region.
Civilian vigilante Babagana Kyari said “at least 18 people, including three women, died… and several others were injured,” an account supported by Ali Dauda who lives locally and saw the blast.
The bomber was one of two at the Tashar Gandu motor park on the edge of the town in Borno state.
The other was shot dead before he could detonate his explosives, Dauda added.
