Peterside Gets Hero’s Welcome In Opobo
The historical town of Opobo, was agog last Saturday when the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside and the Greater Together Campaign Organisation stormed the town in continuation of the governorship campaign tour.
The carnival-like campaign which kicked off with 21 gun salute, an impressive boat regatta and a royal visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, King Dandeson Douglas-Jaja (Jeki V), the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, brought together, sons and daughters of the beautiful island, led by another illustrious son, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, who is a member of APC Board of Trustees.
The rally also offered Opobo people the opportunity to thank Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Rivers State for supporting the emergence of their son as APC’s candidate.
The string of appreciation began with the women of Opobo, under the umbrella of Opobo Women Welfare Association and Biriye Women.
After offering prayers, the women led by their spokespersons, Felicia Pepple, Maureen Uranta and Cordelia Peterside presented a token to the APC candidate, describing him as a worthy son who has remained a source of pride to them.
Similarly, Rivers APC South East Senatorial candidate, Senator Magnus Abe called on Opobo/Nkoro people to support their own.
“I am here to witness your happiness and joy because I know you will be celebrating today. You remember that some time ago, I told you that we were already working for your son, and that all you needed to do was to do your part. I hope you can see his popularity”, he said.
Responding, Peterside promised hope and prosperity to the people of Rivers State.
He described Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro people as grateful citizens who fully appreciate God for honouring them with the gift of a governor at this time, adding that this favour would not have been possible without Governor Chibuike Amaechi, who has been of tremendous assistance to them since he became governor of the state.
He commended the governor for his giant strides in the provision of healthcare facilities, schools, infrastructural facilities and opportunities in appointments, pleading that the only way to thank such a loving governor is to vote APC in all the elections.
